Kids DO notice!
I was taking my four year old son to preschool this morning. I decided on the way there that I was going to tell him how special he was because he is smart and very good at computers. I decided to do this, because once again, our 8 year old daughter was on the front cover of the newspaper for winning another award. Our 8 year old is clearly just like her father….an overachiever. She excels in school, sports and has a winning personality. She is nothing like me! My son is so sweet but laid back and clearly not anything like his sister. I often worry that he will grow up and have a complex! I just wanted to make a point this morning that he was smart and very special too! After I told him my thoughts about him, he sat there quietly. Finally, he spoke, “Mommy, you are special too”. I decided to ask why, even though I was pretty sure I knew what the answer would be. “You make a good PB&J” or “You make my owies feel better” or something equally endearing. However, the answer I got floored me. “Mommy, you are special because you are a good exerciser”. WOW. He actually notices that I exercise???? As a former couch potato, one of the reasons I started exercising regularly 5 years ago was to be a healthy role model for my kids. Frankly, I NEVER thought they ever paid attention. Apparently, I was wrong. So enough blogging for me today. I am getting my running shoes on and getting outside to get some exercise, and James…this run’s for you!!!!!
Goose bumps - that’s so sweet! I love that my son does downward dog, cobra, and now jumping jacks with me!
You are wonderful mom! Kids see and notice everything and they make connections. Being a healthy role model is priceless for your children.
Imagine how proud they will be cheering you up at the marathon finish line.
Awww how sweet was that!!!!

Wow, it’s great that your son does notice that and I’m sure that makes you feel better…not only that he noticed what you were trying to be a role model for but also that your hard work is paying off and I’m sure more then just your son is noticing!
That is sooo heartwarming! Yous such a great mom…you just keep up all the positive and nurturing to that little guy! Sounds like your really making a difference in his life. You deserve a big hug!
It’s amazing what children notice. Good job on the exercise and keep it up! Good luck!
I wish I had near your energy. I raise 3 children the youngest is a 4 yr old boy. He is still granny’s baby. I know how endearing comments like that can be out of the mouth of babes.
Brenda! the main reason after my health of why I am losing weight and am so exited is because of my 6 year old daughter, she is completely the contrary of me. Overactive, great burning system, but she is 6 and I want her to learn the good things. Kids notice, she has seen my struggle with weight and she is a pusher!! Believe it or not, she do abs, cycling and dance in front of the mirror during the time that I am on my elliptical. She onces told me: Mommy I’ll help you ok! I am going to exercise with you, I’ll show you how! At gym time they teach us how to stay active. That was a few weeks ago and that stayed on my mind on how much she wants me to be healthy and to be able to keep up with her! So she gave me the example I am here just to follow her! Keep the great work and I am so happy to be your buddy!!!
